Hello! I am Sara Wickersheim and will be filling the position of Early Childhood/Elementary Special Education. I am excited to be here and cannot wait to embark on this new journey and embrace everything that Elcho has to offer.
A little bit about myself, is I am not originally from the area. I was born and raised in a suburb of Milwaukee County. I started my college career at UW-LaCrosse, but quickly learned that those large lecture halls just were not for me. I transferred to Alverno College where I would later earn my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with a support area being in math. In 2013, I earned my master's in Early Childhood Special Education.
I started my teaching career in 2007 as a math interventionist in the Waukesha School District for one year. I then found a position in the Kenosha Unified School District as a Head Start teacher the following school year. I spent 5 years in Kenosha where I also got to experience 1 year in a 4th/5th grade multiage classroom. I then decided to start heading north and landed a first grade teaching position in the Oshkosh Area School District. It was my year in Oshkosh that I met my husband and decided that I was moving even further north to a small, rural town. I was able to find a position at the White Lake School District as a first grade teacher for the first year, but the next 4 years would be spent in Kindergarten. It was after year 5 that I wanted to put my special education license to use and was then hired in Antigo as their sole Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. I spent the last 7 school years there before wanting to continue my journey back to a smaller school district, but still be able to practice in the world of special education.
I have two daughters, Izabelle and Jordyn, who will embark on this new journey in Elcho with me!! My husband is a fuel truck driver and salesman. I was also blessed with 3 step-children, the oldest is at UW-Stout completing his master's program and 2 high schoolers who will be a Senior and Junior this school year. We are a busy and active family. When we are not at sporting events, dance, etc. we enjoy glamping (camping with a camper rather than roughing it with a tent) with friends and family. We especially love to visit and camp in the Upper Peninsula.
