Lady Hornets fall in conference opener, but maintain hope for the season

On Thursday, September 1, the Lady Hornets Volleyball team fell to the Crandon Cardinals in 3 sets for their conference opener, making the team 0-1 for the conference.
The first sets for both junior varsity and varsity were a matter of nerves according to Varsity Captains Kailey Kupfer and Emily Moore. “Once we had a mistake or two we began to dig a hole for ourselves and didn’t seem able to get our momentum back. It was a battle against ourselves rather than another team,” Kupfer said. Kupfer came up with two aces in the second set.
Moore said, “I think we need to take this game as a learning experience. We need to play each game point by point and work together as a team to get the win.”
Elcho Varsity Coach said, “Everybody looked like they really cared. They looked like they were ready to come in the next day ready to turn a new leaf. The worst thing as a coach is having a game like that and seeing a bunch of people laughing about it. Everybody was ready to get back to the gym.”
Elcho Junior Varsity coach Lexi Midtlien said of the JV performance, “I think that the JV team did a great job considering we were down a few players. They really pulled it together and came together as a team. We did come out with a loss but my favorite part was despite all of that, we were still playing all together and as a team.”
The Lady Hornets JV squad played a quad at home on Thursday, September 8 and the Varsity squad traveled to Wisconsin Dells for a tournament this past weekend. Their next conference match is Tuesday, September 20 against Goodman-Pembine.
